Russia is responding to Ukraine’s Black Sea attacks by seeking to reroute its grain exports, but so far the efforts are falling short — only about 1/10th of the volumes are being shipped through the key alternative ports, data show.
The government decided to prohibit, by national sanction, the transit through Estonia of grain originating from Russia and Belarus. Although until now Russia and Belarus have not used Estonia for exporting their grain, establishing the restriction excludes this also in the future.
On Thursday, October 1, the Saeima decided in its final reading on urgent amendments to the Agriculture and Rural Development Law, which provide for expanding the ban on importing products of Russian and Belarusian origin, applying it not only to agricultural goods and animal feed, but also to food products.
